Permits

A valid Kern County Commercial Film Permit is required for ALL PROJECTS filming within the county boundaries -- including those taking place on federal, state, civic, special district or private properties. Additional permits or approvals may be required depending upon the specific location and activity. Please consult the Film Commission for additional requirements.

Kern County Film Permit Application
• Complete and submit the on-line Kern County Film Permit application. Please review all terms, conditions and requirements before submitting your application.
KERN COUNTY FILM PERMIT APPLICATION

• Submit a valid certificate of insurance via e-mail to insurance@filmkern.com.

Kern County Roads
County-maintained roads are available for filming at the discretion of the Kern County Roads Department. In addition to a valid Kern County Film Permit, a Special Event application issued by the Roads Department is required. Requests for road closures may be considered on a case-by-case basis. To determine if desired roads are Kern County, State of California or private property, please contact the Kern County Film Commission.

Stunts or Pyrotechnics
Stunts or pyrotechnics performed in unincorporated Kern County require a permit issued by the Kern County Fire Department. Download and fax the application to the number listed on the form found at the link below, taking care to:
• Complete the project information section
• Check the box labeled "Special Effects"
• Enter details under "Description of Project"
• Complete customer/applicant information (some fields may not apply)
KERN COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT PERMIT APPLICATION

Stunts or pyrotechnics taking place in Kern County's incorporated cities require permission from those respective cities. Please contact the Kern County Film Commission for specific information.

Incorporated Cities
